handcuffs.jpgFrank Murray, an elephant handler currently traveling with the Piccadilly Circus, was arrested on May 10th by the New Jersey SPCA on an outstanding warrant for four counts of animal cruelty.

The charges go back to June 1996, when Murray was performing in New Jersey with a different circus. He was arrested on charges of “inflicting unnecessary cruelty towards a living animal and not providing proper sustenance”, but he failed to appear at a later court date.

We’re happy that the law has finally caught up with Murray. The animal(s) he abused may see some justice.

The Piccadilly Circus is scheduled to perform in Fort Myers and Fort Lauderdale in July. Please contact the performance venues and ask– in light of the arrest of the circus’ elephant handler– that they cancel the circus’ upcoming appearance. Contact:
